Conduct geographic research with guidance
This internal achievement standard requires students to collect information about a national park such as the Whakapapa Ski Field and associated infrastructure.
The aim of the research is to determine whether the infrastructure associated with the Whakapapa Ski Field assists to protect the park’s values/principles. Data should be collected in Whakapapa and Iwikau villages and the Top of the Bruce and Whakapapa Ski Field. Infrastructure associated with the ski field should be mapped to determine the spatial component (distance, accessibility, location, spatial patterns). The infrastructure should be also assessed for its impact on the natural environment of the national park. The perspectives of park users and workers could be collected through interviews and questionnaires. Additional information could be gathered using secondary resources.
Written with past moderation experience, current Social Science advisor and up-to-date NZQA and MoE practices.
