AS91933 (1.2) Weather Research 'Why does it always rain on me?'
This internal assessment Explore the environment using data is based on exploring weather in different environments. There are two suggested aims. The first is based on using data from two different environments using data collected from a recommended weather site. The second is based on collecting data from the school’s weather station and the local airport. This is an ideal assessment for schools who find getting out to do fieldwork challenging.
Included in this resource is a ‘Data and Observation Recording Booklet’ which is designed to assist kaiako and ākonga in the collection of weather data. The booklet has two sections based on the two different aims.
In addition, the resource includes 18 teaching information and activity sheets, accompanied by a suggested teaching sequence. These materials are designed to aid ākonga in understanding weather phenomena and developing their skills in processing, presenting, describing, and drawing conclusions from data.
The assessment and additional resources are structured to ensure that ākonga can meet the requirements of the Standard. The tasks guide ākonga through collecting and presenting their data, explaining their findings and forming a conclusion, and explaining how the data strengthens and/or limits their understanding of the environment.
